Ken Hagiya 🇯🇵 🇨🇦

Ken was born in Tokyo, then immigrated to Canada and has been a West Coaster since. Starting his undergraduate studies at UBC in 2021, he was going to major in music and biology. Fate had other plans however, and guided his soul into the wild thicks of chemistry (and a math minor). In 2022, Ken started his research with the synthesis of novel phosphaisoprenes for P-containing polymers. As a 449 student with the NBD group, he is now using his synthetic background to uncover the fate of volatile selenium compounds in the atmosphere. Outside the lab, you can find him playing piano, running some crazy ultramarathon, or speeding around town on a red bike.
